Orange tabbies come in a variety of coat patterns. It’s not likely you’ll see one with solid orange coloration. Another strange fact is that 80% of orange tabbies are male. This is because the gene that codes for orange fur is on the X chromosome and boys only need one of these chromosomes to get the orange marker whilst female cats need two. Probability stands in favor of boys. Another noteworthy fact is that orange tabbies are seen in various cat breeds. Maybe because of Garfield, or maybe because there’s some element of truth to it, male orange tabbies have a reputation for being over-eaters. Some vets are perplexed by this because there’s no scientific evidence to back this up, yet vets will tell you this is something they see in their daily practice.
