Weimaraner dogs were hunting dogs that were bred among German nobleman. Their breed was protected for the longest time which meant it wasn't until 1938 that an American from Rhode Island got his hands on a few and started breeding them. Because of this, it wasn't until 1942 that the breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club. Known for hunting boar, wild cat, bear, and dear, they are related to hound dogs and like hounds, they have an incredible sense of smell and are respected as highly intelligent dogs.
