Dalmatians are well-known for being firehouse dogs. But few know about how they became associated with firehouses. Before fire trucks had engines, they were simply called "bucket brigades" and were horse drawn wagons that carried buckets of water. Dalmatians ran alongside these fire brigades and cleared the way for them by barking. Their presence drove the horses towards the fire, which was important because horses are naturally inclined to be spooked and run away from fires.
Did you know one of the first fire brigades in America was started by our famous founding father, Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia in 1736? Today, it is unclear how many dalmatians are kept as fire house dogs, but you better believe every fireman knows this history. This accent pillow would make a nice "thank you" gift and would be a fun and creative way to share some love with your local fire station.
